MCLEAN, Virginia, June 11, 2007 – QSM, Inc., a leader in software development estimation, planning, and project management, today announced that its SLIM-Estimate tool has been validated Ready for IBM Rational as a compatible integration to IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. IBM Rational Portfolio Manager is an end-to-end project and portfolio management solution. It provides visibility across the entire IT organization and enables the alignment of software and systems development with business objectives. SLIM-Estimate is part of QSM’s Software Lifecycle Management suite of tools and solutions to support better decision making at each stage of the software lifecycle. SLIM-Estimate helps determine the time, effort and cost to satisfy a given set of software requirements and determine the best strategy for designing and implementing a software project. The validation denotes that estimates contained in QSM SLIM-Estimates solution log can be exported to IBM Rational Portfolio Manager leveraging the IBM Rational Portfolio Manager web services-based Application Programming Interface (API). Integration of QSM’s SLIM-Estimate data to IBM Rational Portfolio Manager will provide a more realistic work breakdown structure for IBM Rational Portfolio Manager project managers looking to automate these planning tasks. QSM’s SLIM-Estimate will take a few inputs on project size and productivity and generate a detailed task-based WBS for export to IBM Rational Portfolio Manager. Now Rational Portfolio Manager project managers can generate a defendable project plan in minutes instead of days or weeks.
“The key concept here is portfolio management. Whether it is financial investments, software portfolios, or other assets, management needs the best current insight in order to make wise decisions,” said Lawrence H. Putnam, Jr., Managing Partner, QSM. “Project managers must be results-oriented. SLIM-Estimate and RPM marry the best solutions for optimal outcomes.”
Project managers have some of the highest labor rates on software project teams, Putnam said. “Allowing them to set up a realistic project plan in minutes vs. days or weeks translates into thousands of dollars saved on each project it is applied to. This solution pays for the tool licenses on the first project it is applied to.” QSM is participating in the Ready for IBM Rational software validation program. IBM lays out specific requirements for adding value to IBM Rational software. QSM views its relationship with IBM Rational as a way to take software measurement, estimation and control mainstream and have it integrated into an organizations software development toolkit.
